Now the weather is warming up, we are pleased to be moving on to our summer menu. Our chefs here at Goatacre Manor Care Centre prioritise delicious, lovingly prepared meals that they take pride in. Each week we select a “Resident of the Week” who is invited to choose a special meal that they would like. We regularly get feedback from our residents on what they like, dislike, or would like to see more of, so that we can prepare the meals they love.
New guidance was published on the 21st June regarding visits to Care Homes. For information on what is allowed under current government guidelines, please see the government website by searching for Guidance on Care Home Visiting – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
We are following government guidelines and will implement each new change safely.

Although we were unable to hold our planned Welcome Back Afternoon Tea, we still prepared a lovely day for the residents. We all sat outside in the fresh air for a BBQ, cakes, and fun with the animals from Chloe’s Farm. Many of the residents enjoyed getting to pet and look at the donkeys, ponies, goats, rabbits, and other animals that came along. For some, it reminded them of the farms where they had moved from and for others it was an opportunity to pet new animals.
Gardener’s Corner – Colin’s tips for July
Sowing and planting Vegetables
• Sow spring cabbage, turnips, Oriental vegetables, chicory, fennel, and autumn/winter salads.
• Carrots can still be sown, but beware of carrot fly when thinning existing seedlings.
• Last chance to sow French beans and runner beans.
• Plant out leeks and brassicas for a winter supply, if not yet done
• Check plants regularly for aphids.
• Watch out for potato blight and tomato blight.
• Look out for asparagus beetle.
• Keep an early eye out for the sunken brown patches of blossom end rot on tomatoes.
Protected Lunch Time
We have a protected lunchtime between 12:30 and 2pm to allow our residents to enjoy their lunch and for our staff to assist during this time.
Unless your call/visit is an emergency you may be asked to come back or call back after this time.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Staff in Spotlight
This month’s Staff in Spotlight is our Admin Manager Ava. Ava started with us in August last year. She has worked in HR & Admin roles for 30 years and found her niche in Care Admin about 5 years ago. Ava also manages the Activities and Marketing side of life at Goatacre and can’t wait until we can open up to visitors properly again and have some big events- she has lots planned! Ava has been married to Matt for 25 years and has two sons, 21 & 16. She enjoys family time and walking Reggie who is a regular visitor here at Goatacre.
While you have been away we have taken the time to refresh some of our rooms.
For one of our activities this month, we invited residents to give colourful handprints and to share something that they are proud of having done in their lives with the use of their hands. These residents have touched the Taj Mahal, cared for people in hospital, and driven tractors. Here at Goatacre Manor Care Centre, we want to care for and get to know the whole person, including their accomplishments, interests, life story, and hobbies.
